Google profiles are a way to claim your identity

jimray:

Add contact information about yourself to be more findable. Take THAT, Facebook.

Been there, done that; a week ago: http://www.google.com/profiles/tylerhamilton

Questions remain though:

  • How much info do I put on while avoiding identity fraud?
  • What about spam? (seeing as how the major option for that is to make your profile your Gmail account your profile URL)

One cool yet unintended side effect of my minimal use of self-linking is that I’m on the second page of (my version of) Google for Tyler Hamilton so sometimes I get mail for the other one (the biker guy who retired recently.) How much Google personalized my search results though, I don’t know.
